Finishing

Little baby quilts are always so much fun for me. They are a quick and gratifying finish! I have been working on this one for a while now and she is almost done.  The hardest part for me is always deciding how I'm going to actually quilt the project and what color thread to use.  I spend time planning and deciding fabrics to use so I just don't want to pick just any thread.  I must say I can see my improvement in my quilting with each project finished.  It's usually lack of confidence in myself that holds be back from doing a particular project. However, I am tackling new challenges within myself and it see a vast improvement. I can only get better.  This quilt brought about new challenges with quilting because I wanted something that would make the quilt pop.  After debating pebbling, stippling and I cant even remember what else, I decided to go with straight line quilting throughout and stippling in the borders.  Here is a little sneak peek.  Thanks for visiting and as always I would love to hear from you. Happy quilting!

Progress Update

Just a quick hello to show my progress on that adorable little baby quilt.  I always love each project and this one is no different. There is just something about babies and all their stuff that just makes me happy.  Here is a sneak peak at what is going on in my quilty world.  Hope you made time to sew today.

Guess what?

Yes, I have a new project in the works.  I promise it had to be done!  Another coworker is having an addition to the family.  Sometime this spring, his family will welcome a precious baby girl.  So when he asked for a quilt I jumped at the opportunity to make anything with pink and polka dots.  It is going to be a chevron quilt with flowers. I don't remember where I saw it online, but I just had to make one myself.

First I cut 2 in by wof strips

I sewed those strips together in sets (print strip with a white strip)

I cut the sets at 3&1/2 " intervals

Hopefully I will have a completed quilt in no time.  Happy quilting!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

2013 has been a wild ride for me.  I finally had a major surgery which was long overdue. Now that I'm done with it I wondered what took me so long. Finally feeling healthy after a long haul. The other big milestone was starting this blog. I have taken what I feel is a major step regarding my craft, but one that was long overdue.  I feel so truly blessed to have people who are like-minded and are interested in what I'm doing. I am new to this blog thing but I plan to have a lot more finished projects. Thanks for sharing in my ramblings and enjoy a blessed and safe new year!

Another finish!

As promised, here is the Christmas skirt I finished. I absolutely love it too. I will probably do things a little different on my next one.  It was a little difficult sewing over all those gathers. I will definitely have to make a few more to go under our other trees.

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

I love this time of the year.  The weather is getting colder and my favorite holiday is right around the corner. There is just no other season better than Christmas! So with that being said, this was the perfect time to begin another project. We needed a new Christmas tree skirt.  Pretty Prudent had a tutorial on a beautiful, ruffly (is that a word?) one. I did things a little different.  There was no way I was going to manually do all that gathering. I got out my ruffle foot, some leftover fabrics from previous projects and got to work.  I don't know what size my strips ended up, but I did have to add 1 extra strip to row 5 and 2 strips to row 6.  Once I made all my gathers and formed each row of strips, I found it easier to pin them to the felt. I just didn't trust myself.  I'll let you guys know in a few days how it all turns out. Happy quilting!

All Done!

So happy to have another WIP completed. Maybe I will get that stack of quilts down after all. I must say the binding was sort of a beast to finish. I don't know what I was thinking. Using 2 layers of batting AND a flannel backing, geesh!  Oh well, you live and you learn. However, I am very happy with the end result and I think baby Kyrin will love this quilt. Here are a few finished shots, even one with my little one pretending to be asleep. Love that crazy kid!

Thanks for stopping by and happy quilting.
