Party but no quilting

Still not a lot of quilty business going on here but there has been plenty of Christmas activities to keep me busy. I realize I have OCD, Obsessive Christmas Disorder. I LOVE all things Christmas! With that being said, my daughter and I hosted our first cookie exchange party.  I am happy to say that this will be an annual event. This party was way more fun than I ever thought it could be.  I went bonkers with decorating, game planning, and just making sure that the little ladies would have a fun filled evening. The excitement in my little one's face was absolutely priceless.  Next year it will definitely be bigger and better. Well I will leave you guys with a few pics and wish you the very merriest of Christmas.

nothing going on here

WOW, time has really flown by. I can't believe that so many months have passed and I haven't blogged anything.  Well you can see by the lack of pictures that that purse did not get punched out like I thought it would. That thing was a real booger! However, I will not be defeated! I will complete that damn thing, lol! I have had a few other sewing mishaps but they were really too horrid to share. On the quilting front, I have some exciting news to share. Next week my quilt studio is suppose to arrive and hubby will begin getting it ready for me. I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am. We have been looking for months and finally decided on one from Classic Buildings. I could not find an actual picture of what mine will look like but I found one that is sort of close.

I finally get to have a space of my own where I can just be lost and do whatever. Hopefull I will have some projects soon that I can share.  Miracles and blessing!

A little progress

My projects are progressing along but I've had a few road bumps. First I could not find the hardware for my purses. After 3 trips to Hancock Fabrics and Joanne's, I improvised. The bag called for a 10mm magnetic snap and I have yet to find one, who knew they were so hard to find. However, I did not mind going to the stores, I had an actual emergency LOL.  I did complete the shirt, yeah!  I just have to finish the hem, but it's actually something I can wear in public!  Here is a preview and hopefully I will have finished pics of the purses soon.  Happy quilting and sewing!

Look out! Here comes the Spiderman!

My daughter and I recently saw the new Spiderman movie and looooooved it. I am a huge Marvel Comics fan and since I have no new projects on the horizon I decided to make both of us a purse in this cool Spidey fabric I recently found and a LQS. The Madison Wallet Bag by Serendipity Studios is gorgeous. I have been dying to make this bag since I got it in Paducah and the AQS show. I've never made any purses and this one looks simple enough.  I figure I can punch a few of these out this weekend.

I will be making two out of the Spiderman fabric and one out of this cute Mickey Mouse comic strip.

Hope to have something adorable to show you guys real soon. Thanks for visiting and happy sewing.

p.s I am still working on that little top I mentioned in my last post. I wouldn't be normal if I didn't have more than one project in the works, lol.

Epic fail!

So, I had delusions of making that fabulous Vogue shirt. Ah no, it did not turn out so well. I have come to realize that as a newbie in fashion sewing, I will have tons of epic fails. However, I am committed to making nice clothes for myself.  I will not give up. So with all that being said, I have no new item to share.  I have embarked upon another journey but I have learned so much in the sewing world.  Another blogger has inspired me to try and make Butterick 5645. I am making the little leopard print number in a solid green knit. It is such a cute little number and I think if all goes well, I'll make a few of these as I am lacking summer tops. Here is a little inspiration until we meet again. Happy sewing!

I thought this was a quilt blog?

Nothing new is going on in my sewing world, at least as far making something is concerned.  I think I work best when I have a deadline LOL.  I may not have sewn anything but I have done a LOT of fashion pattern and fabric shopping.  Since we last talked I went to Paducah, KY for the annual AQS trip. I really didn't purchase many quilting items there but I certainly made up for it once I got home. Thanks to http://www.mimigstyle.com/ I have sooooo many clothes I want to try and make. I never thought that I would delve in fashion sewing but I think all types of sewing eventually spill over into each other.  I have ordered lots of fabric but I think my fear of messing up has halted my surge into fashion sewing.  However, I have started one top that I am hoping will not be a dud.  I plan on getting the final stitching and hems completed before this weekend. I hope there will be a finished and wearable top somewhere in the near future. Here is the inspiration piece from http://thenaturalfashionista.com/as well as the pattern and my attempted product. Thanks for stopping by and have a sew wonderful day!

A sweet finish

I can't believe a whole month has gone by and I have not blogged anything. I have somehow lost my sewing mojo and then found it again in time to finish that little baby quilt. I can honestly say that I fall in love with each project.  This little baby quilt (gotta start coming up with names for my projects) has really been fun.  There were a few bumps along the way but all ended up well. The next time I mark a project for quilting, I'll make sure to test the product on scrap fabric first (duh). I used a yellow chalk liner and had really hard timing getting that darn chalk off.  All ended well but I was really scared it would not come out of that white fabric. I even made a bag to store the quilt in and remembered to make a quilt label before I was finished with the entire quilt.  Enjoy and thanks for taking a peek into my small world, Happy quilting!

Finishing

Little baby quilts are always so much fun for me. They are a quick and gratifying finish! I have been working on this one for a while now and she is almost done.  The hardest part for me is always deciding how I'm going to actually quilt the project and what color thread to use.  I spend time planning and deciding fabrics to use so I just don't want to pick just any thread.  I must say I can see my improvement in my quilting with each project finished.  It's usually lack of confidence in myself that holds be back from doing a particular project. However, I am tackling new challenges within myself and it see a vast improvement. I can only get better.  This quilt brought about new challenges with quilting because I wanted something that would make the quilt pop.  After debating pebbling, stippling and I cant even remember what else, I decided to go with straight line quilting throughout and stippling in the borders.  Here is a little sneak peek.  Thanks for visiting and as always I would love to hear from you. Happy quilting!

Progress Update

Just a quick hello to show my progress on that adorable little baby quilt.  I always love each project and this one is no different. There is just something about babies and all their stuff that just makes me happy.  Here is a sneak peak at what is going on in my quilty world.  Hope you made time to sew today.

Guess what?

Yes, I have a new project in the works.  I promise it had to be done!  Another coworker is having an addition to the family.  Sometime this spring, his family will welcome a precious baby girl.  So when he asked for a quilt I jumped at the opportunity to make anything with pink and polka dots.  It is going to be a chevron quilt with flowers. I don't remember where I saw it online, but I just had to make one myself.

First I cut 2 in by wof strips

I sewed those strips together in sets (print strip with a white strip)

I cut the sets at 3&1/2 " intervals

Hopefully I will have a completed quilt in no time.  Happy quilting!
